I remember something about a broken laser, I think. So what games do you play..PC & emulators? I play games for all my systems (on occasion, at least), with the Saturn being lowest on my list (damned batteries!).

Well...I got rid of my psx and ps2 once I bought my ps3. I was lucky enough to get one of the 60gb with the best backwards compatibility. I now use my ps3 to play all of my psx, ps2, and ps3 games. Since I've got 10-20 unplayed games for each system, this works out well. I've also got a psp that I almost never use. I hate not playing with a tv and controller in hand. I really just bought the psp to play FF1, FF2, Crisis Core, FF Tactics, and Valkyrie Profile.

I haven't even gotten around to trying emus out on this computer yet. My old one wouldn't run the N64 emu well, I should give that another try. Do you play fan translated games? I'm sure I've missed a lot of them....need to check on the Langrisser trans again.

Ohhh, sounds risky. :) Doesn't the PS3 have quite a few emulation quirks?

The handhelds just aren't something I can get into either. Part of the problem for me is a pinched nerve in the neck (the position kills me)...I might could deal with it if there was a way to hook it up to a TV (I don't remember hearing of any). I do have a GBA emu from years ago, only ever played Azure Dreams on it (and I have the PSX version anyway).

GamePad beat me to it, but he's right...a psp slim is capable of being hooked up to a tv right out of the box. Unfortunately, you do have to buy the cord separately, and IIRC, it has to be a HDTV not an SDTV.

As to your other question, I've never had a single problem playing any psx, ps2, or ps3 games on my ps3. Many of the other models have shitty (or no) backwards compatibility feature at all. The one that I bought (the 60Gb launch model), supposedly has 99% backwards compatibility for all psx and ps2 games. I have yet to come across any of that 1% of games that it won't play. If anything, I like it better for playing the older psx and ps2 games. I just finished playing FF7 and I think the attack animations were much nicer through the ps3. There is also the convenience of being able to wirelessly reset your game, and not have to power everything on and off again to perform a reset.

Nice..those seem vary rare. Do you have all 10-12 games made for it? I'v never really played on, tried an instore demo once when I was young. Always wanted one. How do you like it?

RE: PSP ...that sounds interesting! Especially since I ran across a bunch of EBOOTS not long ago. I don't own an HDTV though, but it's not like I can run and get a PSP just because I want one either. :) I'll definitely keep this is mind though. Thanks for the info you two!

I think I remember hearing that the PS3's PSX compatibility was superb, but it was probably the other version PS3s I heard about having problems with PS2 emulation.
I take it the PS3 has a built-in soft reset? I personally think it a crime for any game that has a save feature to not have an in-game "load" feature as well....or at the very least a software reset ala the FF games.

And to Darkrpger, have you played the Xenosaga or Suikoden games? I love both of those series as a whole (even with the rotten egg in each).

I only have 3 of the games, I do like it but I am sad that I lost two of the others, one was Wario World I think and the other was a pinball game. I got it from my older brother years ago, and when I went on vacation somewhere I didn't want anyone else to play it so I took the battery pack off and lost it, didn't find it until about 3 months ago haha. Now I have the whole set up except the stand because it broke :( But, still plays just fine :)

First of all...what a sweet avatar tehsassypirate/GamePad!...You've really got a talent for this, GamePad :P

Talisman...I have played all 3 of the XenoSaga games. I liked the 3rd one the best! Have you played XenoGears yet? I haven't, but it's close to the top of my "to get" list.

I loved the in-game load feature in ShadowHearts, and I also think that all games should have it. You can do a "soft-reset" for the ps3 from the wireless six-axis controller that comes with it.

I have not played any of the Suikoden series yet, but I do plan to at some point.

Not sure what the "rotten eggs" were in XenoSaga...you're not talking about Albedo, are you?

I had everything... I mean EVERYTHING. It turns out that when I remembered that I still had things at my parents house, I went to get them. They sold them ALL for twenty bucks. I even had a Japanese Sega CD. I'm not exaggerating in any way, shape, or form when I say everything. I just wanted to emphasize that.

DarkRpger,
I'm a little partial to the first Xenosaga, the game absolutely blew me away! The third isn't far behind, but ep. II is what I was referring to as a rotten egg....oh how I detest that game (and Monolith for making it the way they did). I'll stop there, no need to rant about it. :) It may seem a bit odd but I still recommend to anyone asking, that they try it out for themselves. For the Suikoden games, rotten egg is a little harsh but I was pretty disappointed in the 3rd game (my favorite thing about the game is the opening, I love it!). Overall, a great series of games!

Xenogears = my all-time favorite rpg! The characters, the music, the story....all of it is excellent. It's definitely a recommended game for any rpg lover...just pay no mind to the hype when you play it (many people expect too much with all the hype this game gets), and experience it without any preconcieved notions...there's a very good chance you'll rank it rather highly when you're done.
